Memory of a Time Twice Lived extends from Chris Marker’s La Jetée by way of the accordion and the Mexican wrestler El Santo. The film imparts a Latin American and decolonial twist on the French Avant-garde building a field of relations which tie together 20th century mythic heroes, the taxidermy collection of the Wagner Free Institute of Science (Philadelphia), El Santo, and the accordion as a nomadic instrument. The work includes a concert arranged for film and an accordionist performing throughout. Shot on location in Philadelphia, Mexico City, and Hidalgo, México, this work is a journey through musical tempo, cinematic time, and the excavation of an image.
